How we research and write.

Solar Briefly is an independent information site. This page explains, plainly, how the guides are put together and where our numbers come from, so you can judge the content for yourself.

What this site is, and isn't

Solar Briefly is a small, independent project, not a solar installer, a manufacturer, or a lead-generation business. We don't sell panels, we don't take commissions from installers for sending you to them, and no advertiser decides what our guides say. The goal is simple: explain the money side of home solar in plain language, including when solar is not worth it.

We are not licensed energy, engineering, tax, or financial advisors. Our guides are general information to help you ask better questions, not personal advice. Always confirm figures with local professionals before spending money. See our full disclaimer.

Where our information comes from

Each guide is compiled from primary and reputable sources rather than opinion, including:

  • Manufacturer specifications and published warranty terms.
  • Government and regulator energy resources for incentives and rules.
  • Published industry pricing data and reports.
  • Utility documentation on net metering and export rates.

Because solar prices, incentives, and regulations vary by location and change over time, we deliberately explain how a number is worked out rather than presenting a single figure as fact. That way the guide stays useful even as the specifics shift, and you can plug in your own local numbers.

How we use writing and research tools

We're transparent about this: like most modern publishers, we use software tools, including AI assistants, to help research, structure, and draft material. Nothing is published untouched. Every guide is reviewed by a human for accuracy, checked against the sources above, edited for clarity, and revised when we find something that could be clearer or more correct. Tools help us work; they don't replace judgment or review.

Accuracy and corrections

We try hard to be accurate, but no source is perfect and things change. If you spot an error or something that's gone out of date, pleasetell us and we'll fix it. We date each guide when it's published and again when it's reviewed, so you can see how current it is.

How we make money

This site is supported by advertising and may contain affiliate links, which never change the opinions in a guide. We tell you when solar or a battery is a poor fit, because being useful is the only reason anyone would come back. See the disclaimer for the full disclosure.
